Mobilink introducing M-learning in Khyber Pakhtoonkhuwa to empower Women

Mobilink has collaborated with the institute of Social and Policy Sciences (I-SAPS) and GuarantCo for its “SMS-based Adult Female Literacy Programme” under the initiative of “Make your Mark”. This program is focused to facilitate learners with the ICT based education nearby their homes. Mobilink has targeted about 4050 women in eight rural districts of KPK, educating them in Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Malakand, Haripur, Kohat and Mansehra.

“This M-Literacy Project took an initiative with 250 females and till now it has proved a significant impact on the lives of 10,000 women all over the country. Triumph of the project lies in the idea of using the mobile phone as a tool for education so that no proper schooling systems are required. Another important factor is the allocated course for the easy and practical learning. We aim to provide these women with the better sense of managing the domestic finances and contribute at community, family and individual levels. Further he added that, the government of KPK has assured its full support for the program and will join hands in the on-ground execution of the initiative.”

The project to be viable it required the community mobilization and hence the partner of Mobilink Foundation I-SAPS established the “village Education Support Committees” all over the eight districts. These committees consist of the respected elders and influential people.

Hence, I-SAPS succeeded to get the community support for identification of teachers and the learners from the 154 villages. Moreover, it established 160 Adult Literacy Centers which are quite accessible where the adults from age group of 15-35 have been enrolled and are taught basic literacy skills.

   The Senior Research Fellow- I-SAPS Ahmed Ali said that

“ Being aware of the cultural impulsions we consider our success lying in the comfy navigation through the barriers in an effective way via community mobilization and the variation of merging literacy with the ICT in the whereabouts of the learner’s homes.”

Whilst this “SMS-based Adult Female Literacy Program ” learners will be able to educated up to some extent of literacy within the time period of 5 months of literacy coursework and they will also be provided with a mobile phone so as to practice and polish their skills.

The “Make your Mark” initiative is a mainstay of VimpelCom corporate responsibility strategy with a vision of “Helping youth to shape their future”. Its main foci are to provide youth with the technology tools, support, leadership and sometimes the basic education so that they may be able to handle the challenges at every level making future.
