MONT5 is a online only label focused on creating luxury leather jackets for men with an affordable price tag. MONT5 released their label through a crowdsourcing campaign on the crowdsourcing platform kickstarter and was an instant hit, meeting their goal of 18,000 in 48 hours.
The brand intends to keep on selling online by creating an online E commerce channel and does not intend to have a brick and mortar shop. The co-founder of the startup Zia says, “Our aim is to provide value, a personal experience with a low cost. We do this by cutting all the middlemen out and selling directly to our customers. If we went with a traditional brick & mortar shop we would not have been able to do it. Because of additional costs”.
Pakistan’s leather exports have a negative growth compared to the rest of leather producing countries in the region. But technology now allows us to turn this around, without massive investments in the sector but shipping directly to the customers.
We live in a time where startups like MONT5 can exist and flourish because of online channels, we have seen E commerce go up over the years and it is growing at 13.5% every year, through this growth we have seen the rise of multi Billion dollar E commerce stores like Amazon, Alibaba and Flipkart. MONT5 wants to use the same model and deliver right to it’s customers, this helps them to reduce cost and provide more value to it’s customers at the same time, it allows them to give a fair share to the craftsman working with them.
“We believe in [b]ethical trade[/b] practices and are setting up measures to make sure our craftsmen grow with us as our startup grows. The generations old craft is dying and people associated with it aren’t making enough money to keep it going for example our head tailor Naeem Ahmed with 30 years of experience was driving a taxi when we found him, we want to change that.” Commented co-founder Zia.
The kickstarter will allow the startup to raise money to buy the best quality leather from the tanneries that serve wilson leather and other big labels in U.S , the startup aims to create jackets that last a lifetime and they back this up with a lifetime warranty.
But the biggest advantage the company has over retail stores is it’s personalised experience, where the user is connected with a consultant who helps him with the measurement and style of jacket to ensure every customer gets a perfect fit and looks great while wearing it. The custom experience sets the company apart from other online and retail stores. The stores that do provide the service cost 3X or what MONT5 offers.
When reached out for a comment the craftsmen said, “We are happy because we have a fair share in the jackets sold, something we haven’t had in all of our professional life. Thank you for supporting our craft and hard work. “
The company also offers fully custom jacket services, where individuals can work with the designer to create a custom piece.
Mont5 Kickstarter still has 17 days to go and they are aiming to reach the $100,000 mark by the end of it.
