Open source software is made by many people, and distributed under licenses that comply with the Open Source Definition
Open Source Foundation Pakistan (OSFP) aims to spread awareness about Open Source in Pakistan where technology is free to use, free to modify and free to re-distribute. OSFP vision is to make Pakistan a hub of Open Source. Pakistan is a under develop country so instead of purchasing heavy license software’s and spend millions and billions dollars on it our aim is to opt Open Source Software’s. In this way we can save billions of dollars that are being spent on Closed Source Software’s. It can helps us in keeping data save and generate more revenue for the country. OSFP is providing training to University students and Faculty Members. They want to establish strong linkage between Industry and Academia for better collaboration.
Open Source Summit is an event, aimed at spreading awareness about the Open Source technologies, where technology is free to use, free to modify and free to redistribute. The main focus remains on why this is important, and more so why for Pakistan?! In a nutshell, using open source technologies will save Pakistan billion worth of dollars that are being spent on closed source technologies, keep our data private and generate more source of income within the country.
OSFP is organizing Open Source Summit since 2014 every year. This is the third consecutive year they are going to organize Open Source Summit.
