For the first time since the Bio-Metric Verification system last year, the mobile companies recorded an extraordinary decline in sales in the month of May 2016.According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), 133.02 million mobile phone users are registered till the end of May 2016 in Pakistan, as five cellular companies registered a combined user base of 824,903 customers during May.

According to experts, the telecom industry of Pakistan has reached its saturation point, and telecom companies should mentally prepare themselves for seeing low sales figures in the coming months as well.

The telecom companies now need to change their strategic policies. Until now, these companies were relying more on data as compared to voice. They are only focusing on the price strategy to win the competition but now the time has come to include value added services through data services to make more revenue.

Coming back to the statistics, Mobilink is at the top of the charts with 38.99 million subscribers while Telenor is lagging behind with 37.45 customers. Moreover, the market leader, Mobilink is going to take over the 11 million customers of Warid soaring very high making it more difficult for Telenor to chase it. Zong stands in the third position with 25.14 million customers, and Ufone has got 20.32 million subscribers till the end of May 2016.

3G/4G Users in Pakistan

Statistics shows a significant increase in the mobile broadband services in Pakistan. The number of 3G or 4G users in Pakistan has grown to 29.74 million by the end of May 2016 as compared to 28.67 million in the last month.

According to the data released by PTA, the number of Zong, Mobilink, Ufone, and Telenor is 5,921,890,9,261,146,5,326,429 and 8,278,048 3G users respectively in May 2016.

The number of Zong 4G subscribers has increased from 584,540 in April 2016 to 630,277 in May 2016.

Meanwhile, Warid LTE customer base reached 330,876 during this period.

The number of broadband users has reached 32,717,756 from 31,645,171 during the mentioned period.
